crack in composite floor deck
how do you repair cracks (not hairline) in composite floor decks?
first question is: does the crack need to be repaired. concrete slabs crack, especially ones that are supported on structural steel. if the slab is supported on metal deck and the crack is not causing a servicability issue, it might not need to be repaired. otherwise epoxy injection would probably be the way to go. contact a concrete repair contractor to recommend a repair.
if this is a composite beam floor and the crack is deep enough, it can negatively effect the composite action of the beam(s).
you must know what has caused the crack before attempting a repair otherwise, you may select an improper repair detail that will simply recrack. for instance, epoxy injection for a crack caused by the omission of negative reinforcing over a beam may just recrack or crack adjacent to the repair. keep in mind however, that the crack may have relieved any dead load stresses.
thank you for your responses. i am on my way out to check the crack. also, i have a call into the floor deck manufacturer to see if they can be any help. i will be looking in the blue book for a concrete repair contractor for their input. |
