cross-bracing
i typically use kl/r for rod x-bracing = "0.45 times the diagonal length / r" with a u-bolt at the intersection and a max kl/r of 300 as per canadian steel code.  there is provision to waive this if other means are provided to eliminate flexibility, sag, vibration or slack...
what do members of this forum do?  any published info on this?

i think that the kl/r is more or less a recomendation (at least in aisc).  if you properly design the rod as a tension
thanks... the u-bolt is at the intersection to keep the two bars from rattling.

i designed elevated water tanks for years. kl/r was not an issue for us as the rods had turnbucles to taking out the slack.  rods were sized fof tension loads only, so the area requirement determined the rod diameter.  rods of 50 to 70 feet in length were very typical.
