delayed ettringite formation
for a pavement that is experiencing accelerated deterioration due to delayed ettringite formation, and that is near a minimum service level condition (i.e., nearly "failed"), has anyone had previous experience with being able to recycle this pavement by rehabilitating it with an asphalt overlay? (in this case, it's a reinforced pcc pavement.) any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

be careful with leaving any form of reactivity in place and placing anything over it. keep in mind that currently, in its failing condition, the expansion is relatively unrestrained. cracking and seating, then "encapsulating" the reactivity can cause an acceleration of the expansion and affect on the overlay. |
