fluid pressure
can someone help me remember how to calculate a pressure from a velocity of water?  i have a pump in a river that flows at 10 feet/sec.  i need to calculate the pressure the water exerts on the pump to design the anchorage.
any help would really be appreciated.
thanks!
f=1/2 rho v^2 a c
pressure = 1/2 rho v^2 c
f= force from current
rho= density of water (not pcf, divide by gravity first)
v= velocity of water
a= x-section area of the pump
c= drag coefficient.
c for a car is about .45.  maybe use high number like .7 or something.
i got 96 psf (unfactored).  i assumed it is regular water not muddy (62 pcf).
thanks a lot for the quick response!
i got 96 with c=1.  i assumed the pump is like a flat plate.  dont take anything for granted k.  i have been out of school kind of long and i dont encounter this equation when i design a house
i checked with an hydraulics engineer in house and i got the same equation.  i came up with 96.89 psf.  good job!
