grain bin foundation
does anyone know of any links/design helps/industry standards on how to design a foundation for a grain bin?
the owner wants to basically pour a floading slab with a thickened edge?
the bin would be 30 foot in diameter & hold 18,000 bushels @ 60 lbs/bushel = 1080 kips over a 31 diameter concrete pad.
thanks!
check out our whitepaper library.
sounds like a winning design if the soil allows 2 ksi or better.
just for interest sake - do a search of the famous failures of grain bins - transcona grain elevator that failed in 1913, for example. there is a case history in tschbotarioff's book on foundation engineering.
