half moon nut
can anyone help me find half-moon nuts?  they are part of a bed which i am trying to assemble.  it is shaped like a half-moon, flat on one side and rounded on the other, with the hole for the bolt going from the rounded to the flat side.  the diameter of the hole (or the bolt) is 0.75 in.  the diameter of the nut is 2 in.  the thickness of the nut is between 0.5 to 0.75 in.

i think you mean half moom washers or tapered washers. the nut is the bit you put the spanner on and it therefore needs to turn around (which is impossible when it is tapered).
i suggest you google it.
i called it what the instruction manual calls it, which is "nut."  i had already looked up both half-moon nut and washer (there was a previous thread on half moon washers), but found none which looks like what i need.  the bolt is threaded into it, along with flat washers and tightened with an allen wrench.  i figured you guys would be expert at locating them.
jct94,
no, in three different countries i have never heard of the type of thing you describe being used in a structure. you may want to try the welding, bonding and fastener engineering forum or the mechanical forums.
are you thinking acorn nut?
do you see it here?
i have seen a half moon shaped aerospace nut that is called a barrel nut.  these slip into a drilled hole that is at right angles to the fastener axis.  i think this may be what you are looking for.  the aerospace ones are extremely specialized and god-awful expensive (and you'll need to wait about a year for delivery).
there is a similar full round version that i have used in woodworking.  it is a piece of round bar with a drilled and tapped hole through it at right angles.  plain old mild steel.  you might find them at woodcraft or woodworkers supply.
unfortunately i can not find a brochure, but half moon washer was very commonly used in the industry in the the eastern states of australia.  may be some one with local knowledge from the building industry from those parts give the right information.  these washers were used mostly to adjust the inclination of roof tie bracings.
i am also trying to put attach a bed frame to a head post and i need a half-moon washer. does anyone know where i can get this from?
