"hanging curtain wall"
i put the subjec in quotes b/c i wasn't sure exactly what to call it.  i am working on light gage framing for a divider that will be hanging from a structural steel frame above. the divider is in the interior of a very large church.  i'm considering the divider as an upside down cantilever wall.  what deflection limits or where could i find them should i use for this divider.  what nominal lateral design load would you design for (all of these are on the interior of the building)?  thank you.
find a job or post a job opening
how are you defining deflection? what connection is there at the base of the "hanging wall"?  what are the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the wall and how is the wall connected to the steel frame?  janitors with floor machines can impart a 300 lb load any time the machine touches the base of the wall, (in both transverse and longitudinal directions).
sounds like it might be a "soffit" hanging down from the roof. most codes require interior walls to be designed for 5 psf or seismic forces whichever is greater.
