lateral wall support
this is a question regarding the lateral support of an interupted gable wall.
this is a residential design with a 7' wide fireplace/chimney extending above the roof.
the roof is a vaulted ceiling and the stone veneer is to be fully exposed.
the gable end walls also have windows, limiting shear capacity.
the code requires a 2" clearance to combustible wood framing.
question: would there be an issue regarding thermal conductivity using steel clips to connect/brace the wall to the cmu ?
(reinforced cmu is adequate to resist applied shear load.)
thanks
check out our whitepaper library.
if you have any concern about it, just use a korolath shim between the cmu and the steel clip as a thermal break. |
