making digital photo's permanent in a drawing
hi all, i am inserting j peg photos into my drawings by way of inserting a raster image, when i e-mail the drawings any recipients are telling me that the drawing is fine but the photo's are missing, just a box and a filepath is on the dwg, please would anybody be able to tell me how to make a digital photo a permanent part of a drawing so it appears when e-mailed.
many thanks to all.
i got this procedure from one of the most talented engineers and cad users who work in my office. it goes like this:
to insert a picture into autocad:
click on the insert pull down menu and select image manager.  a dialog box will open similar to an xref dialog box.  select the attach option and locate the file the same as you would any reference file (browser based search).  when you have found the file, select open.  the dialog box will prompt you to do the following:
insert at a specified coordinates or by choosing a point on the screen
insert at a specified scale (in all directions)
you can define these or default and insert on the screen.  the image will have grips at the corners and can be scaled as needed.
there is a reference tool bar that will allow you to manipulate the image.
the image cannot be permanently attached or bound to the file as a reference file can.  i will always remain a separate entity and have to be pathed to the file to appear.

there used to be an option in the express tools for autocad that allowed you to "pack and go". this basically meant that any file that belonged with a drawing could be packed with it when it was sent somewhere.
check into the: autodesk: autocad
ask there some one should be able to point you to the required software.
regards

if you send images with the drawing, make sure you have un-checked the box "retain path" so that autocad will look in the drawing's folder for the images.
the cad file will only store the name and path of the image, not the image file itself. make sure you email the image files as well with the drawing. the recipient will have to redefine the path in image properties and it will appear in its correct location.
pack-n-go is still used for this.  it is in the 'express' pulldown menu.  it packs up all the attached files such as images and x-refs needed along with fonts and text/plot files.  i get drawings often through email where the title block is missing because they are x-ref'ing them and do not include them in the email.
i have autocad lt 2002 and in the past i've used the "etransmit" command under the file menu.  it allows you to convert a drawing into either a self extracting executable, a zip file, or a folder containing a set of files.  as long as you check the box that says "remove paths from xrefs and images" it should include your pics also.
