masonry construction practice
is it standard construction practice in oregon to grout all masonry cores (similar to california) solid whether they contain reinforcement or not?
check out our whitepaper library.
i'm in oregon.  not necessarily.  for below grade structures, yes.  for regular above grade structures, i specify solid grouting if reinforcing spaced at 24 inches or less.  if it's your regular #6@48 verts and #5@48 horz, it's only partially grouted.
additionally, we use the ibc up here (as california soon will).  most of the buildings i design are in sdc c or greater and require ductility detailing per the msjc code, which often results in lots of solid grouted piers.
we are using the oregon code (ibc 2002 with additions) and are in sdc d on a very large project. most reinforcing is at 24" oc or closer.
thanks for the info.
