masonry facing
masonry facing per 2307 at l/600, no support by wood members, 1/2" offset from light-frame face req'd. std wt brick used.
brick facing to be running bond. have 16' garage door header, 3.5' pier width each side of opening & 10' of gable at center span. calcs out for a36 9x4x5/8" angle, however, this does not appear to be representative of witnessed practice. do arch mechanics apply to running bond brick faces? any comments or references welcome.
for arch mechanics to work, we require a width of brick (each side of opening) to be a minimum 30% to 40% of the opening width each side. this can vary depending upon the height of the opening.
you also need enough vertical masonry above the opening to form a triangular area which peaks below the top of the masonry. we normally use a 1:1 slope on the triangular arch lines.
