masonry partition wall design in sdc d
i am looking for the seismic load to apply to a non-load bearing wall partition. the partition is 10' tall with roof structure located at 18'.
the ibc 2003, 1620.2.7 states that load bearing and shear walls shall be designed for an out of plane force of 10% of the wall weight or by the use of formula 16-61. but this is for a load-bearing or shear wall, whereas i have a non-load bearing partition wall.
also, in aci350-02, 1.13.5.2.2 discusses partition walls with isolation joints between elements that resist lateral loads, but their is no mention of what seismic load to apply to the wall for design.
does anyone know if their is a seismic code that discusses what load needs to be applied to the partition wall or should i apply 10% of the wall weight and see what that does for the design?

look in asce 7-02 section 9.6.1 and table 9.6.2.2.
the wall would be considered and architectural component and should be designed as such. if it is part of a rated exit corridor, it should be designed with an importance factor of 1.5 |
