masonry reinforcing above lintels
to accommodate exterior masonry wall reinforcing above openings, i frequently specify a36 or a307 threaded rod "dowels" (typically 24" long) shop welded to the top of lintels at a given masonry spacing. the vertical rebar can then be tied to these rods. i chose these rods since a615 bar is not to be welded to mild steel. (wind applied to minor axis has been considered.)
i am aware that a706 rebar does exist and is weldable, but not practical, due to low demand and high minimum quantity production, etc ...
can my current specification be improved? changed?
please advise ... thank you ...
i use exactly the same thing for fastening to steel lintels. another alternative is dba's (deformed bar anchors). for concrete or block lintels i use rebar. |
