V44 Dimension/GDT Tests: When I try to add a form axis line to an existing dimension, it is automatically converted to some other axis type.
<< Don Ruggieri -- 01/28/09 16:54:31>>
data is in 01282009_05a.zip. When I try to add a form axis line to an existing dimension, it is automatically converted to some other axis type.
Steps to reproduce:
I am testing form diemnsions as part of the overall v44 dimension test plan. I have 4 measured features, a plane, circle, cylinder, and cone. Ive dimensioned the location of each, no problem.
At the end of each dimension, I hit Enter to open a new axis dimension command line. Then I try to change the axis to M for form. As soon as I leave the field it reverts to some other axis letter.
I tried selecting from the lpop-up list.
I tried using the F7/F8 toggle.
I can select the M axis, but it always changes back to something else.

Yes, we can remove "M" from location axes list in future versions. I did record the PR in my local ER list.

Yanhua explained that the M axis is not legitimate for use in the location dimension. While it would be nice to have it removed, it is too late for that in V44.
I would ask that it be removed in future versions though, Yanhua. Can this be done?

Don R,
"M" is not in the axis list for location dimension command. So you cannot create "M" into location dimension.
I have not found any problems, when have M in the location toggle list of edit window.
If remove "M" from the location toggle list (will change V44B resource, but V44B resource froze), will break the mapping relationship between macro definition (#define LOC_M_TYPE 9) and the location toggle (IDS_ES_LOCATN_TYPES_TOGGLE). We need do a big change to keep the mapping relationship. This could introduce unexpected errors.
IDS_ES_LOCATN_TYPES_TOGGLE
"X \001Y \001Z \001D \001R \001A \001T \001PR\001PA\001M \001V \001L \001PD\001RS\001RT\001S \001H \001FL\001RN\001ST"
I tested, could add FL, RN, or ST in the location dimension.
Can I close the PR?

Investigated further.
dimension type VS axis type toggle
1. location dimension ->S_ES_LOCATN_TYPES_TOGGLE
2. legacy true position -> S_ES_TP_LOCATN_TYPES_TOGGLE
3. angle dimension ->S_ES_A
4. distance dimension ->S_ES_M
5. other legacy form and location dimension -> S_ES_M

Donald Turcotte says: Form is either FL (flatness), RN (roundness - circularity, cylindricity) or ST (straightness) depending on the feature type. If the user can add one of these in the edit window, then this is working ok. THe M is not form.
Donald Turcotte says: M is not in the list for location dimension, Form in the location dimension is FL, RN, or ST. The M is used in reporting results in other dimensions.
Donald Turcotte says: Please do not remove M from this list. If the user can create a FL,RN, ST axis in the location dimension, then everything is working ok. Trying to create an M in the location dimension does not make sense since M does not apply to location dimensions. M is used in other dimensions so it should remain in the toggle string in the resource file.
Donald Turcotte says: If it is not causing problems to have M in the location toggle list, then don't remove it This could introduce unexpected errors.
Donald Turcotte says: Have you tested this to verify that the user can add FL, RN, or ST in the location dimension or true position dimension? If this works, then please close the PR.

I am investigating the PR.
For location, there are 20 pop-out axes in edit window. But in fact, just has 17 axes defined in location dialog. "M" (Measured) axis is not belonging to location. Should we remove "M" from the axes list? Don T. told me he will have to research this since this has been in PC-DIMS a long time. I will create a topic about axes in our wiki forum.
