nds table 11g (bolted steel wood connection) question
so at the bottom of the table it says that:
"... and a dowel bearing strength (fe) of 87,000 psi for astm a 36 steel."
i thought a 36 is 36 ksi? why 87 ksi? i am trying to make a spread sheet that will give me these table values and i cant seem to justify the 87 ksi.
coengineer-
look in aisc 360-05 page 16.1-111. the nominal bearing stress when deformation of the hole at service loads is not a design consideration is 1.5fu. fu for a36 if 58,000psi. 1.5*58,000=87,000psi. it is equation j3-6b in the thirteenth edition manual.
thanks man! i can tell you were on hell of a student when you were in school. did you sit on front row?
no problem - i actually sat at the back of the class and paid very close attention. i was hesitant to sit at the front of the class for fear of being thought of as a suck-up by the slackers. i wouldn't want them all to think i didn't earn the 100's i got on my tests. |
