nfpa developing a building code
apparently, the nfpa is miffed about not enough access to the development of icc2000. they have decided to go right their own building code, available in 2002. see their website
i've also posted this in the civil engineers forum. the cross-reference is
i think it is a set back for the unified 2000 code. realistically though, i hope the sponsors for the 2000 code will realize that all parties with a vested interest in building codes are invited to participate. with this understanding i think the nfpa code will be reviewed and included in further updates.
the nfpa has done a good job in its own area, but has apparently been an absolute pain in the *** (can i say that, dave?)when it comes to cooperative involvement with the other code bodies. they were evidently the impediment to the international code. i would like to see them cooperate and let's get on with a single unified code. nowhere is this more evident than when practicing in south florida where one road transends several municipalities and within a few hundred feet you go from the standard building code to the south florida building code (which has a dade county edition and a broward county edition!), so you can have the same building designed under two different codes within spitting distance. the metal building guys just love it! |
