non-prequalified welded joint
once in a while, we encounter a welded joint that is not pre-qualified (or shown in the aisc 9th edition pages 4-152 to 4-173). does this mean that we must assume the capacity is zero? is there a way to calculate the capacity of a non-prequalified weld?
if a pre-qualified weld shows a butt joint, does this mean that the same weld should not be used on a tee joint?
i thought that all unqualified welds had to be tested.  this is a ? for aws.
these are connections for owner built monorails. we are trying to rate them.
have you posted this on the welding, bonding & fastener engineering forum?
i do agree with scottiesel that its a question for aws.
thanks for suggesting to post this q on a different forum. i will do that.
