piled slab
i am doing an investigation on piled slab that will be used to carry roadway embankment through weak soil.
can anybody shed some light on this topic?
your question is not clear!
i do not want to sound harsh, it sounds like you are venturing to an area that you do not feel comfortable with. tell us more about your qualifications and the project.
this type of construction is used in some airport runways and slabs that is supported by poor soil.
are you about to design such system or are you performing forensic type investigation?
regards,
lutfi
what i am about to do is the preliminary design of a section of highway that passse through weak soil.
just because a design is preliminary doesn't mean that you shouldn't get advice from experts.  now is the time to get a geotechnical engineer on your team to get you started on the right path.
agree with jedclampett - piling for this application would be very expensive. proper use of geotextiles may be a proven, cost-effective alternate. here are a couple of links for background information
i guess jiao is just looking for some options that could be considered. he will then be able to approach a geotechnnical engineer armed with some ideas.
geotextiles may be an option, but i would expect that this would already have been considered before looking at piles.
there are jet grouting column ground improvement methods which probably fall under the category of "piles". these are frequently used on highway projects (in asia for sure) and can be looked up on the internet.
jiao take a look at this website
