post-frame (pole) building diaphragms and shear walls
i am being told by a contractor client that many pole building contractors screw metal roof panels to every other purlin, and metal wall panels to every other girt.  i find absolutely no diaphragm nor shear wall test results that allow this.  has anyone seen tables or test results where metal panels are not screwed to every submember?

i haven't seen anything like that and it doesn't make a lot of sense either since the suction on the wall panel is greater than the inward push.  if that were the case then why even put the girt or purlin on it.  sounds like someone trying to cut corners to me.  as far as shear walls are concerned i would guess that it would just be the shear allowed for the spacing between the attached points.  i would suspect though that their are not any test for spacings that high.
good luck.
dave,
i hear lots of tales from contractors and how they always used to do it differently till they met me!
think of it this way: if you do not fasten to the girt, how are you going to transfer wind suction loads to the girt? otherwise, the girt is useless in this application!

brovo lutfi!!
you hit the nail on the head.sounds like good old fashion bull from the contractor to me.
if he can prove it with math, than it's o.k. by me
