reading structural steel blueprints
recently started a new job as a sheet metal detailer. the job involves the drafting of drawings(cad)for hvac duct systems in new buildings and the renovation of old buildings. this requires the ability to read structural steel drawings in precise detail. i am looking for a book(s)and/or a course that covers reading these drawings. i would appreciate any advise you can offer on this subject. thank you.

aisc manual of steel construction is a good one.  it will give you exact steel
aisc also has a steel detailing manual.  pylko mentioned the aisc manual of steel construction, which gives the member dimentions, but the detailing manual would give you the suggested "best practices" for the detailing of the steel design.
the biggest task you have is trying to find out how much room you have for ductwork in a building.  architects and engineers don't always give this aspect of their design enough thought.  i should think that if you layout the bottom elevation of all the structural framing before you start your ductwork layout, you would go long way toward solving most of your layout problems.
