rebar billets
a quick one - from a technical point of view, it is really necessary that steel billets for rebar be from virgin steel or can re-rolled steel billets (scrap) be used too? what is pros and cons? is it okay so long as all steel properties are met? what is your practice? thanks . . .
bigh - in the us reinforcing steel is usually made in electric arc furnaces with scrap steel as the primary raw material.
it's not like they take a bunch of scrap and just roll it into another chunk of steel. the stuff is melted, once you get to that point, it doesn't matter where it came from. |
