reinforcing grade in 1930's
i've got a note on some 1933 drawings that says "reinforcing steel to be new billets 20,000 lb. grade". does anyone know exactly what that means? should i assume 20,000 psi yield?
no, 20 ksi was the allowable stress. in 1933, using an allowable of 20 ksi likely means that the yield stress is 40ksi or 50ksi. i would be on 50 because a lot of what i've seen uses 0.4fy for the allowable, but you can be conservative and use 40ksi.
check out these papers. there are 2 in this one attachment. the second one is the last 2 pages.
thanks structuraleit. that's great info in your link. i was hoping it was grade 40. |
