ryerson joist tables?
i am looking for ryerson joist tables from the mid 1950's.  i've contacted ryerson, they sold that division 25 years ago and it has since gone out of existance.  i've tried the steel joist institute (sji) and ryerson was never a member.
i am reviewing an existing building with 20" deep ryerson joist (tags marked sj207325) spanning 33'.  owner wants to replace an existing rtu with a new, larger and heavier one.
any help would be appreciated.
check out our whitepaper library.
i have a steel joist institute 60-year manual, copyright 1992, print date 1997.
there is a one-page table for "sj" joists from aug. 20, 1929 that was revised on sept. 16, 1952.  that is on page 247 of my 60 year manual.
according to this table there could have been a joist designation "sj207" for a 20" deep joist.  it sounds like that is what you have.
i would guess that in your tag sj207325, the first part is the joist designation sj207, and the last 3 numbers are either a length indicator (i.e. 32.5 feet) or a some other kind of individual identifying number for that particular joist number on your building.
a structural engineering firm in your neighborhood should have a copy of this manual, and can give you advice on how to apply it to your situation.
