sfrc slab on ground saw cut depths
does anyone know of guidelines in regards to the depth and timing of saw cuts in sfrc slabs on ground?
i attended a seminar a few years ago where 1/2 depth was recommended, however this is being questioned by certain concrete contractors.
there is not really any need to make the depth significantly different for sfrc than conventional concrete. if you have traffic (vehicle, forklift, etc.) on the slab, do not cut more than 1/4 of depth so that you maintain load transfer. if you have no traffic on the slab, you can go to 1/3, but i would not go deeper than that.
you can stretch out your joint spacing a bit. rather than using 24 x thickness you can go to 36 x thickness, maybe even to 40 x thickness, depending on fiber mix and type.
try aci if you want to substantiate. i agree with ron's
statement of 1/4 thickness; this is a good general rule of
thumb. are there any special conditions? |
