snap ring groove stress
hi,
one of the designs i am reviewing involves an external spline with a machined groove cut circumferentially for a snap ring. the snap ring sees a uniform load normal to its face (parallel to the spline direction), and the load is fed into relatively short spline lugs. i am trying to calculate the maximum tensile stress at the corner of the machined groove (as a function of the fillet radius). i found a formula to calculate tensile stress at the corner of a short gear tooth in roark's text. can i adapt this formula to a protrusion with straight faces, to simulate this spline loading? i should probably do an fea but i am trying to cut down on the abaqus work if i can get a good conservative estimate. thanks!!!! |
