structural engineering
i'd like to start learning how to size structure for residential homes off an architectural drawing. how do i get
started (books, courses,etc...)?
you first need to get the engineering data for structural members like wood that you're most likely to be using.
steel is common, (aisc steel construction manual), but wood is sometimes difficult to obtain.
one scource that i know of for wood and composite
there is a series of books by harry parker (john wiley & sons publisher) that are good starter books. the one i have is called "simlified design of structural wood". also check out the national design specification for wood construction (nds) by the american forest & paper association.
many building codes (the uniform building code) have numerous span tables for wood framing members. |
