structural steel erection specifications
hi all,
my company is currently preparing a bid package for the design, fabrication, and installation of a sorter steel structure in a seismic zone 4 area.
the structure consists of 2 pairs of longitudinal w10x43 beams supported by w18x40 beams at every 24' span. the total length & width of the structure is about 460'x30'. the top of steel of the longitudinal beams (highest structural elevation) is about 16'-0".
i would like to find out what kind of specifications i can provide along with the bid package so the structure is built accordingly. i have listed that the structure should be designed and built according to local, national, and internation building codes. i have also listed the structure be built according to aisc structural steel design standards. what else should i include? osha standards?
are there specifications out there where i can use for guildlines (squareness, plumbness, etc) when the structure is erected? or should a professional engineer licensed in the area be responsible for writing all the specifications of how the steel should be erected and so forth?
any ideas and comments would be highly appreciated.
thanks!
there is no point in reinventing the wheel.  you need the assistance of a structural engineer both to verify your design and to prepare the specification.  a structural engineer will already have a structural steel specification which can be edited for your project.
ditto.

are you the bidder?  your supply of the design would make it appear so.  if so, where is the structural engineer that designed this structure?  he/she should be able to create an erection specification.
i am unable to discern your design, when you say longitudinal beams? are you trying to say a column?  or are you looking in plan view and just calling longitudinal north to south?
stl63,
no. i am preparing the structure to go out to bidders. we are only preparing the concept of the structure because we have our equipment located along the entire length of the structure and we have first hand knowledge of how our equipment should be assimilated within the structure.
yes, longitudinal beams running north/south of the building as shown in the layout below.

my friend, engineering specs are parts of design which you are bidding out. i believe you should prepare what you expect from the structure like vibrations etc which can effect or defect your machines. leave the rest to designers, you are hiring anyway. regards.
