structures fabrication tolerances
hi,
happy new year 2003
i'm looking for standard tolerances for structures fabrication (machinery and assembly).
could you please help me.
many thanks.

you can start with aisc standards. these are for structural steel buildings, however, if you are within these tolerances, i am sure you are ok w/machinery.
tolerances are generally given on the fabrication detail drawing. remember that the cost is very dependent on the tolerence, so don't put ridiculous tight tolerances on welded parts for structural buildings etc. now the size of the part also effect the tolerance.
generally between +/- 3 mm for general fabrication on parts greater then 1000 mm dimension. +/-1.5mm on parts smaller then 1000mm, welded, formed fabrications. aisc i am sure has recommendations on fabrication tolerances of welded parts.
parts that are machine finished tolerances are much tighter, otherwise why machine them. |
