vertical anchorage to hollowcore voids
i have a situation where we want to anchor to a hollow core roof slab (precast concrete deck). the product is coming from hollowcore inc, and has 7-1/2" dia cores and 1-1/4" thick concrete "flange" over the cores. we'll anchor to the 1-1/4" thick concrete flange. right now i'm assuming the anchor is good for a tensile capacity equal to that of a astm c-90 concrete masonry unit.
anyone know of any research done on this? sure seems like i should be able to get more capacity out of a deck then a c-90 masonry unit.
thanks,
aaron

if you know the f'c of the hollowcore you can try using that instead of the cmu value. you can also look for fastener data published for use specifically in hollowcore. becareful with the 1.25-inch embed. you don't want to hit any prestressed strands. i usually limit any fastener embeds to prestressed concrete to 0.75 inches. there are a few fasteners out there by ramset and hilti made to accomplish this, and probably a few others as well. |
