vibration check for joist supported floor
we have a note on drawing that joist designer has to perform vibration check for floor supported on joists.
but joist guy is still insisting that we have to provde him inertia values.
do we still need to check vibrations for these joists.
beam supporting joists are design as non-composite.

floor is 3.5" concrete on 1.5" floor deck.
normally, the engineer of record would check the floor against the owner's acceptance criteria so that he can modify the design before bidding.
if the joist supplier now finds there is a problem, how do you solve it? with a big change order? what if you have to add concrete to the system?
do you have a simple calculation to check vibrations. it's a mall second floor.
i need to check analysis.
joists are spaced 3'-8" o/c and floor consists of 5" concrete deck i/c 1.5" composite deck. also joist spacing is half than the design span of concrete deck.

in my opinion it is definately the eor's responsibility to check the floor vibration of the chosen structural system.
i agree with jike that it would be impractical to leave this for a component supplier.
we use floorvibe.exe program which was developed by murray, and reflects the requirements of design guide #11. very simple program to use, and it allows for quick checking of a lot of different systems and combinations of beams, joists, decks, concrete thicknesses, etc.

have you developed that sofware or is from a software company.
i also don't want to believe in black box results too, so manual calcs are vital.
floorvibe.exe is produced and sold by structural engineers inc., of virgina.
it my understanding that the company is owned by (or very closely associated with) thomas murray who is pretty much the 'guru' of floor vibration reasearch.
