wood dowels
anyone know where to find information on the amount of force that may be transfered through wood dowels given the species, diameter, embedment into main member, thickness of side member?
i can't seem to find it in any of my books.
thanks in advance,

i assume that you are using the dowels to transfer shear. if so, just compare your shear stress to the allowable shear stress for the species of wood you are using.
good luck.
you might want to check with the timber framers guild. i know they had some info regarding wood dowels, usually a hardwood such as oak or hickory
see:
chip here it is, this report covers calculation of lateral values for single dowel type fastener connections using a generalized and expanded form of the nds yield limit equations: |
