broken out section
i want to do a broken out section on my initial view in a drawing. the problem is i don't have any edges that are where i want the section to be taken. does anyone know what the default plane is that you use to sketch the outline on? i find that it is off center of the view by using the 3d drawing view function but i cannot tell exactly how far off center it is.
i was able to get it to work by guessing different numbers. the second time i did it was totally different than the first time, the plane was way out in space, whereas the first time the plane was closer to the part.
the plane should be parallel to your view and located at the most extreme point of the model nearest you (out of the page). in my experience, when you take that into consideration and adjust your section depth accordingly, you will be close if not dead on where you wanted your cut depth.

one option that i use to do this, is to create what i call a "throwaway view".
i just insert the view that contains the edge that i will use to define the depth, create my broken out view sketch, select the edge or vertex, then delete my throwaway view. this way, i know i'm getting the exact depth every time.
or you could create a config with an extrude-cut in the model and use that in the drawing. |
