cabinetmaking and solid works
hi
i`m new to solid works and need help with cabinet assemblies. i`ve drawn a 3d model of a cabinet. this was done by creating the various parts of a cabinet and mating the parts to one another. i will create more cabinets and then bring the cabinets into a main assembly and mate the cabinets together. my question is how do i resize these cabinets if i need to.
i tried adding dimensions in the main assembly but these dimensions don`t seem to change the size of the overall cabinets.
ps..i did look at the help for sw but didn`t come up with any info.
check out our whitepaper library.
you should check out the driveworks express add-in.  it is ideally suited for automating your cabinetmaking.  otherwise, look into design tables.  also, if you want your parts to update by varying a parameter of the assembly, then you might want to think about in-context or top down design.

if you made all the parts separately and individually, then you will have to change dimensions at the part level. this can be done manually dimension by dimension, or with a design table (dt). configurations can also be created this way and then a part in an assy can be switched to show a different configuration. the part configuration states can be controlled by an assy level dt.
parts can also be controlled at the assy level using a layout sketch. a sketch is created at the assy level and elements in the part sketch are created from it or constrained to it. this is known as in context or top down design.
i agree with the others.
