certain part data to excel export ?
hi,
i have no expirence at all with api or vb....so i am asking....
i would like to cut parts pricing time for our laser cutting operation here. we use solidworks for drawing, and i would like have it so we would be able to open an assembly in sw (solidworks) and somehow have a plugin or macro to get certain part data (sheet metal) to an excel sheet, part name, description, cut starts (for laser), quanity, weight (rectangular) and number of bends, all into there own coloum in excel.
open an assembly and click .... exported ....
does anyone know if this could be done and if so who would i ask ?
any info would be appreciated.
thanks, sid
anybody any ideas if it can be done or not ?

with knowing just the short description you have given here i would say it can be done. do you have intentions about doing it yourself or are you also seeking people who can programme the solution for you?
you should write a requirement specification which precisely describes the input, the result (output) and your ideas for how the the program shall work.
i make these kind of solutions and i know there are several other people in this forum which also make a living out of it. you could also try to ask you var for references to local sw programming ressources.
where are you located?

it is a fairly simple task but you will need to know vba, sw api and excel api for this. however, like jorn said if you need to outsource the work then just post a spec and there are plenty of people on this site who can offer do it for you including jorn and myself.
hi jorn and luke
thanks for the reply, yes i would be interested in having someone do this for me, i don't have any time to do this myself nor any experience. so if one of you would be interested in tackling it for me and keep at it till we have it tweaked , debugged and working am am willing to leave it to experts like you guys.
now how does this work ? will ya quote on the job ?
let me know how you price a programming job like this and i will get back with more detailed info of how we want it to work tomorrow
p.s- jorn- i live on ontario, canada ...close to collingwood
will look forward to hear from you !

sydney,
don't worry about hard feelings. luke and i are (i believe!) both pro business men and to a very small extent competitors (at least in this case) but we are also colleagues. let the best man win... ;-)
looking forward to reading your description.
