create soild from surfaces
hello....
i am using the next engine 3d scanner to create models, which i then import it to solidworks. but after importing it into soldiworks. it creates models from the surface.
i want a soild models as i want to make a cavity of this model int the other.
can u kindly guide me with this.
is there any tutorial available for making a soild model in solid works after scanning the part in 3d scanner.
thank you

if you have surfaces then you should use the tools\check to find your open problem areas and you may have to use surfaces of your own to close the model up to turn into a solid.
you can't have any gaps, or open areas. the surface area must be water tight. then and only then can you turn it into a solid.
heal edges command has gotten better over the years, but if i am still unable to turn into a solid i export the file out to parasolid bring it back into sw then use the import diagnostic to help find the gaps and surface issues. you can only use the command on imported files and in that imported file you have not added any data after it was open. if you add a plane the import diagnostics will no longer work.
surfaces to solids are not easy but as long as there are not gaps or open surfaces and is water tight, then you should be able to turn into a solid. (fyi surfaces that intersect will not work either. they must be butted up together like this: -- not:-_

can you zip and attach what you have so far? scanned data is generally only used as reference geometry as it is too rough to use directly for the design of commercial products. if all you need is a pretty picture as seen from a bit of distance... |
