hardware
hi all,
this is my hardware :
cpu e8500 3.17ghz dual core
ram 8gb
display card : quadro fx1700
os: xp64bit
i think this configuration must be enough for every assemblies.
i am working with an assembly,
total number of components     : 1273
number of top level mates      :  94
number of top level components :  34
number of bodies               : 1550
max depth                      :  5
above all my rebuilds are too slow while i am editing any top level mate or any dimension.
i finished the assembly edit and now working for drawing. but i think i failed to carry on.it is too much slow.
i observed that i dont need more then 4gb ram. because solid doesnt use except photoworks and fea.
what is your solution for suchlike assemblies.

eng-tips forums is member supported.
are you working locally or across a network?
are you sure you're using the approved graphics driver?

we are using pdmworks, all parts (except toolbox parts) are in the local drive.
my graphic driver is updated.
do you have similar assemblies? dont you have any problem?

my assemblies are larger (2600+ parts, 5500+ bodies). i also have 13 configurations in the upper level assembly that controls other configurations in lower level assemblies. i expect there to be some slowdowns in the rebuild times.

i have lots of in context features and parts. do you have?

you may want to look up circular references with all the in-context features/parts.  this will drastically slow down rebuilds--sometimes to the point of uselessness.  essentially, you don't want circular references or the software will have to check back and forth between each part multiple times during every rebuild--for each circular reference.  eliminate some of those references, and--if that's the problem--your rebuild times will fall immediately.

i stay away from in context references, partially for the reasons jeff stated.
