lasermrp - the profile and laser tool
the macro steven vandermeulen orginally created from offcuts of other macros floating around has been the inspiration for this new little tool. in short it creates flat pattern dxfs of sheet metal parts, as well as working out cutting speeds, costs (material and labour), thickness, bounding boxes etc...
the original thread is
i installed it and looks to be a great tool, however i cannot get it to work properly. the first error i get is after i type the qty, 'error - cutting speed not available for 3.03784mm thickness. skipping part.' after that it says error opening part.
i have the sw part open when i do this, am i missing something? do i paste the coding in anywhere that it shows on hte website?

the tool was designed with a set number of cutting speeds for certain thickness', but they can be easily added to. what i will do is update the tool when i get 5 and add a simple options dialog for editing cutting speeds.
i've been looking for something like this, the feature where it saves the sheetmetal flats into dxf is exactly what i need, i have large assemblies and i always have to go into each part and save flat as dxf/dwg. this would save me piles of time.
if you need someone to test the program, i'd be more than happy to help just let me know when you have the updates ready.
if i knew anything about api's or vb i would have tried to create something like this already.
if you don't mind my asking, how do you go about starting something like that, do you install a program, do you do it in sw?
thanks,

this tool will be having an update over the next few days so i will add the options for cutting speeds etc... as for producing programs, i have been asked this by quite a lot of people so i may write a small paper on the subject and post it on a6, and it will also be covered in my next book too.
i try to to use it give the error message in the screen shot below. i copied the error detail if any one could fix or try to solve it you will find it also in the attached file below.

you have got the 3.0 .net framework installed haven't you? i am not sure if i compiled it as 3.0 instead of 2 and that may cause an error although it is unlikely.
the error also doesn't tell me much about where it happened. you do have solidworks open and with no models or drawing open so it is just an empty solidworks i presume?
i've checked it and found that .net 2 & 3 are installed, where do you think the problem is

tbh i will have to take a look at the code and see what could cause that as i only made it to beta. i will try and get on it a little today.
luke,
when will you have time to look into the new " minimal bounding box " routine? so the orientation of the part doesn't matter anymore...
pass... lol. i have been overly busy for weeks on end now with work falling out my eyeballs so i tend to just do certain projects or tasks when i have the desire to do them. if i take a glance at it today i will probably have a shot at implementing that too at the same time. i cannot remember where we got up to with regards finding an accurate bounding box can anyone refresh my memory? i believe we were going for the mathematical approach and looping edges or something similar? |
