problem showing flat patterns on drawings
i used to be able to unfold a part, then switch over to drawing and make a new view using the unfolded part.  i would then have all my orthographic views of the part in its finished state, and also a flat pattern view.
now, i switch from the model to the drawing after the unfold operation and all my views are unfolded.
it all used to work but then i called a var for an unrelated issue who remoted into my computer and changed a bunch of settings.  i called him and left a message, i doubt he'll be calling me back today.

in the meantime i will just curse out the var tech while i try to find a solution.

how is the configuration set in each view?  last-used or specified?
specified.
the flat pattern is also specified.

check to make sure that the views are referencing the right configuration...

ok. explain something to me, how come as i am opening drawings they are all 'breaking' so to say with the same problem???
these are all released drawings, they were done a while ago.  why would they start malfunctioning now?

you shouldn't have to unfold it before putting it on a drawing.  just go to your drawing and when you insert the part there will be a flat pattern view to insert (in the orientation section).
uglay,
take a look at the configs of the part and then the configs each view is referring to.  your default config should be folded to represent the finished part, then you have either a specific flat config that you made or there is a derived configuration that is the flat view.
i used to make a specific flat config until i figured out that swx automatically creates this derived defaultsm-flat-pattern.  now all i have to do is create the formed sheet metal part.  when i drag it into a drawing i get the standard views to place on a drawing plus a flat pattern view.

by "unfolded", do you mean "flattened".
either way, you don't need to unfold or flatten to have access to the flattened view in a drawing.
if you create a new drawing and then browse for a part to insert, the flattened view will be available from the view manager at the lh side of the screen.
if you have the part open and file > make drawing from part, the flattened view will be available from the view pallette in the task pane at the rh side of the screen.

ok i knew all that.  just the way i described it was for simplicity.  in any case i just got schooled hardcore. whoever has this problem and finds this thread will have more than enough to chew on.

please clarify. are you having problems creating a new drawing, or opening existing ones, or both? your first post made no mention of a problem with existing drawings.
