rotating a drawing view
i have not had any luck looking this up in help or here, but i know it can be done because i have done it before.  i cannot remember how to rotate a drawing view when inserting a model view.  when in a drawing, i have a rectangular shape, when sw brings in the shape it wants to put the long side across the page.  i want the long side going up and down the page.
thank you for your time and help,
you have to do it after placing the view.  right-click it and choose "rotate view" from the "zoom/pan/rotate" submenu.

i just keep projecting views until i get the one i want, then delete the others.  in multi-sheet drawings (like 12-15 shts) i seem to recall having trouble with simple rotated views being used, but this was probably back on sw00.

either way works, but i also do the same as mm.

madmango,
that is how i use to do it until i found out about handleman's method.  of course when i have not used that feature in a while i forgot and needed a refresher.
the problem i think you might be having is if the views have any children they will rotate as well (if check box is checked when rotating the parent view).  luckily i only am only doing the rotating on the initial view and it is done before any other views are created.  it takes about 3-4 clicks to rotate the view via handleman's method.  it would take me 10-12 via the method you are using.
if i need a view that is not "standard", i orient the view in the model and use "current model view" when inserting the view.  this is more precise than rotating a view if you have something to you need as a horizontal or vertical datum that is not square with the standard views.
named views are also good.
if you simply want to rotate the orientation of the view itself (such as aux views oriented orthagonally), there is a macro for that.  the oddly named ansicht drehen.swp macro here:
that's german for "view rotate".
tick,
looks like your german kung-fu is still kickin' it!

roland,
i know.  i was just being facetious.   not to detract from the macro itself.  it's a good macro.
