sw & acad on 64 bit
we are looking to upgrade computers and possibly going with 64 bit os. is sw2009 sp2.1 running well on 64 bit for everyone so far? also, does anyone know if autocad 2000i will run on 64 bit (legacy stuff only)? will microsoft office 2003 also run on 64 bit? we are looking at the 64 bit so we can get more than the 4g of ram.
thanks,

check out our whitepaper library.
we are currently running xp64 on 4 workstations. 3 with 12 gigs of ram and 1 with 16. we run acad, sworks 08 and 07, and cocreate as well as algor and mathcad. all of these run with no issues. our only issue was creating pdf's with adobe and xlink would not run in 64bit. we use xlink to telnet to our unix station. we added virtual pc for that issue.
i would highly recommend xp64. i haven't noticed a difference with the large amount of ram however.
we are using office 2003 also and no major issues.
i am running xp64bit with 2008 and 2009 and office 2003 with no issues. i only notice the ram helping out when i run large simulations that use up large chunks of ram.
no major issues here either.

try a search here for "64". the question has been asked a lot.

solidworks/pdmworks 08 3.1
autocad 08; catia v5
been there, done that exact search, long before i posted the question. the keyword seach only brought up results from nov. of 2007 and before which don't seem to relate to sw2009 for some reason.
rjason, which version of adobe were you running? we print everything to pdf so i need to make sure that will work.

use the google search function at the top of the eng-tips page. the eng-tips search function gets stuck at 2007 for some reason.
adobe acrobat pro 8.1.13. going to 8.1.13 from 8.0 solved an issue we had creating pdf's from firefox. the only issue i've seen lately is having to set the paper size twice when printing pdf's.
its nothing that will stop you from creating pdf's.
sw will output to pdf with no problem under 64bit. the only issue would be your other applications.
i am using a octacore xeon with 32 gig and w xp64. quadro 1700. 24" full hd.
working perfect for sw2009 sp2.1 . the only thing is that other programs are often not optmalised on 64 bit. so i use for all other apps a normal hp workstation laptop. |
