ansi y14.5-1994 interpretation
what is the meaning of "mr"?
it used to be full rad then added cr for controlled radius.
i have a customer who dimensioned a radius mr
eng-tips forums is member supported.
when i was at pratt and whitney over twenty years ago, they used there own gd&t spec.
radius dimensions were either r or mod r.
r was like a controled radius, no flats or reversals.
mod r allowed flats and reversals.
it may be this is what the customer means by mr, you better ask to be sure.

it could be a typo, someone's own abbreviation, or something to do with the bending stresses.
and it's "asme y14.5-1994".

ask the customer what it means.
i don't see it listed in fig c-3 or section 1.8 of asme y14.5m-1994 and don't recall ever coming across it.
i even checked y14.38-1999 and while it has 3 options for what mr can be, none of them are relevant (machine rifle, maintenance & repair, marble).
i can think of at least 3 things it could be meant to be, max radius, min radius or multiple radii - guessing the wrong one might be problematic.
again, ask the customer.

chris, i just noticed you dropped an m it's asme y14.5m-1994
to the op if your customer print says ansi y14.5-1994 then it's referring to a different (non existent?) spec.
if it doesn't refer to asme y14.5m-1994 then you can't necessarily expect an answer to come from there.

oops! sorry, i was concentrating on the "mr" i forgot it in the "y14.5m"! doh!
