balloon standards?
i am looking for any information if there is any on standard balloon shapes.  i am unsure if they are just a company standard, or if there is a standard in the mechanical industry?
i would like to know when to use part-list balloons, note reference balloons, and more if there are more.
also from the above described what do ovals, triangles, stars, etc stand for?  any input would be appreciated.
currently using autodesk inventor 11.
eng-tips forums is member supported.
asme y14.24 types & applications of dngineering drawings only seems to show round & square balloons.
the circles are for item call outs corresponding to the parts list.
the notes use square balloons.  however at my place we actually use triangles for note call outs.  i've also heard of 'squircles' being used for the same.
i've seen triangles used as rev deltas.
i'm not sure if one of the other y14.100 series docs gives more detail.
hope it helps.
kenat, probably the least qualified checker you'll ever meet...
asme y14.100 talks about flagnotes at 4.26.6.  it shows rectangles, hexagons and triangles as examples.

just a few references:
asme y14.34, paragraph 3 defines "find no. or item number", but does not describe a face-of-drawing symbol for them in the standard.  y14.100, paragraph d3 also talks about find and item numbers, but gives no requirements for a drawing symbol.
y14.35, paragraph 5.4 talks about revision symbols and defines the symbol as the revision letter "enclosed in a circle", but does not define its recommended size.
not a lot of helpful info here, but i'm sure there are other resources that can come to bear on this topic.
