naming or numbering conventions for drawings
we are in the process of creating a standard file name or numbering system for our engineering department. is there a numbering or naming standard that is simple to use and robust? is one preferred over the other? we build yachts so we have drawings ranging from laminate schedules to carpentry details to plumbing schematics, electrical plans, paint details, spar plans, rigging plans, etc., etc.
thanks for the help.
regards,
peter

every company has their own way of doing this. whatever fits your product and whatever makes sense. you can reference asme y14.100-2000, sect 6.
in the solidworks forum there was a discussion about this, one that has a lot of good information.
correct madmango. thanks, i forgot about that thread.
look for the sdsfie/fmfie/ triservice  a/e/c cadd standards in a google web search.
architectural record had a nice synopsis on this issue last april.  aia and csi have two standards which have merged into the national cadd standard.
i anticipate the standard to change because the layers between discliplines aren't normalized especially with respect to autocad groups being formed between different layers.
in a nutshell:
cvengrfff">, *ugh* i'm glad i don't work on dod projects and have to follow that numbering convention.  good to know there's a us standard though (i think).
i think there is a world market for maybe five computers.
