section view created from another section view?
is it legal to create a section view from another section view? thanks in advance.
my gut says no but i can't re
the dwg should be clear and unambiguous.
it's ok to do, and per ringman's quote.
i don't section from a section unless it turns out to be the clearest, and i rarely do it.

i don't have the spec on hand that would define this, but some cad packages won't let you due to ambiguity - do you show a section of the entire part or a section of a section of the part?
i could not find it in ansi y14.3 multi & sectional view drawings. but if you think about it the portion of the object between the cutting plane and the observer is assumed to be removed so how can a section of that section be correct. i think it's "bad english" to take a section of a section.

never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.
from the genium drafting manual (based on asme y14.3-1994) states "a section cannot be taken through another section" (emphasis theirs).
thanks guys. sounds like a no-no to me. |
