suggestion gd & t book
hello,
i was wondering if anyone had a good experience with a training manual for gd&t. at the moment i have a very basic understanding of it and am looking to improve that.
i am looking for something that at the least shows how to convert some typical examples into gd&t. also if the book had any kind of "workbook" where you can answer questions then check them. that would be a big plus.
thanks a lot for any suggestions

check out our whitepaper library.
not a book but this is some software we use for new interns etc.
thanks, that looks like a decent program, and they do have a book offer there also, which is probly the way i will go. considering its about $250 cheaper than the program )
well, i use this book:
geometric dimensioning and tolerancing  by david a. madsen ©2003
it is laid out like a work book, with problems and tests if you want to use them.  i recieved it when i went through training a few years ago.  this leads me to another point, i highly reccomend formal training, otherwise you might not get a full understanding of what you are doing.
work with the book first and then get some formal training. it is a tough subject and it does take a long, long time to move towards a 8 or 9 out of 10 in this subject.

i second this work book

it was the book that was used to teach a class at de anza college.  it's a straight forward work book well worth the money.  but nothing comes short of actually buying the spec document.
there is also a legend that has been circulating around the sf bay area for decades....the guys name is sam levy.  he use to work for lockheed back in the day.  he apparently wrote a book that is worth getting.....it's out of print but when i worked at lockheed there were a few "old-timers" who still had copies.

thanks heckler and dingy2,
that is exactly the type of book i want. i have a much easier time when there are tests/quizes to make sure you are understanding the material correctly.
yes, i certainly see the point about the formal training. for the time being the book and self instruction will have to hold me over. i have looked into the gd&t class offered at the college i attend. however, it isn't required for the pre-engineering associate's that i am trying to finish though, and i really don't want to delay it any longer since i can only take a class and maybe 2 per semester. i would also just rather wait and pay the same $400 for a 16 week class as a 1-3 day seminar. that is why i am looking to the book for my immediate needs (not to mention this website, heh)
thanks,
rob
if you look into professional organizations in your area you might be able to find some formal training in the way of a seminar.  i know when i was living in michigan, i would see sae offering gd&t training seminars every few months in detroit.  2-3 day classes and you are done.
