boston big dig tunnel collapse 2
here's a recent enr report:
a new update with photos and a bit more description on who did what and when.
the highway research center report quoted is sobering news, especially as it says not only would fast-set epoxy "fail decades before nearing this service life", but that standard-set epoxy would also fail in time.
all the testing and information which has come out on the failure due to epoxy creep has come from the highway research center. i wonder what happened to the wiss janney elstner report. they were commissioned to investigate, but i have seen nothing of their work reported. maybe the grand jury has it. they have also been appointed to investigate the i35w bridge collapse.
indicted:
it has always been very odd to me that the power-fast system has both fast- and not-so-fast set adhesives.
you have to really read the fine print to see the (significant) difference. if i didn't know differently i'd think all the powersfast adhesive is fast setting.
i guess they figured "powersstandard" wouldn't sell.
it sure won't sell now.

i think all suppliers of epoxy for construction have two or more set times. i checked and found that locally, florida, that the fast set out sells the standard set three to one. the ratio of sales last month was 2 to 1 with the mention of heat being a problem. this month it should be closer to 50/50, again due to heat.
the plot thickens, sometimes. |
