cast iron column properties
we are checking an old building 4 storey building of brick/steel frame construction. columns internally appear to be cast iron circular hollow sections. any pointers on technical info/properties of cast iron columns? building is in uk but any useful info on cast iron columns would be a starter.
there is a uk published resource that may be exactly what you're looking for...
there is an english book called 'structural renovation of historic structures' or something like that, put out by istructe i think - it has a section on cast iron columns.

many thanks for that - that was very useful and a lot of what i was looking for. anything else you might have would be greatly appreciated as it seems i ll be running into these old structures quite a bit. if not, thanks again, that was great.
