cmu wall elevations?
do you guys ever give structural elevations for cmu walls? i show elevations for all the walls on tilt up buildings because there are so many embeds and detailing required, but i usually give one typical elevation for a cmu building and call out all other structural info on the sections (horizontal bond beam spacing, lintel reinf., jamb reinf., etc).
find a job or post a job opening
my standard practice is not show wall elevations for cmu walls in general.  i do include a typical masonry wall opening detail (door/windows) showing typical reinforcing around and a lintel schedule if we have long spans.
i may include an elevation for special or complicated elevation or when diplomacy fails with the local building department.  in general, i don't.
ditto whyun... if they can get elevations off other drawings, then it's best that you not post them... you can be liable if you're wrong...

we developed a full sheet which covers most all of the details for cmu walls.  these include bond beams, lintels, lintel bearings, beams and joists bearings, etc.
it also has a fairly large elevation showing a typical window and a door opening and the required reinforcing around it.  we set it up to work with the different types of cmu detailing (ordinary, intermediate, special).  basically a standard sheet to use on most any project with reinforced cmu walls.
as for specific elevations of each wall in a project...sort of a waste of energy if you give them the "rules" of construction instead.
what bothers me sometimes is dealing with artichokes who haven't heard of block modules.  opening widths and pier dimensions are most critical in masonry construction.
you may need to draw elevations where your shear walls are unusually or heavily reinforced. if getting the reinforcement in the right location is critical to you then you need to consider the contractor's ability to extrapolate the "standards" on to your critical areas.
we have done some military projects and the military required an elevation of every cmu wall.  we had to show every reinforcing bar, every door and window opening, every hvac opening and every beam or joist pocket.  give me a break.  our details and opening reinforcing elevation were more than adequate to construct from.  sorry..had to vent.

same here... have typical details, and often show wall elevations if there are a lot of openings and typical added reinforcing, but i don't usually add dimensions; i've had too many projects change and would sooner let the contractor determine opening sizes.
