does anyone know any references about design of composite fr
does anyone know any references about the design of composite aluminum and fiberglass reinforced plastic (frp) i-beams? for example, the flanges are aluminum and the web is frp. particularly, what ratio of web height to thickness of the web should be used to resist local web buckling? 25? 20?
thanks for any input.

check out our whitepaper library.
regrettably, there is no valid reference. you can look at the old asce plastics design manual, the eurocomp handbook or even mil-17. ... but i haven't heard of such a hybrid beam. how would the frp web be bonded to the aluminum flange? as for local web buckling, you'd have to look at the orthotropic material properties of the frp layup you're using.
all the best.
thanks for input.
i would contact a manufacturer of frp shapes. next, i would search the journal databases: ex. journal of composite materials, composites engineering, asce journal of composites for construction etc.
thanks a lot for advice. |
