existing footing
have a situation where the existing soils (or backfill debris) is resulting in combined footings to settle.  we have decided to use helical piers to support the footings, however we are having to demo virtually all of the footing up to approx. 18" from the stl. column (creating a short span).  i was looking for other ideas of supporting the footing, i.e. needle beam, etc.
any ideas appreciated.  thanks
have you considered chemical grouting? it may/may not be a possiblity depending on soil conditions.
we used it on an existing project and it appears to be performing fairly well.  we are monitoring the footings as be building on top.
contact a geotechnical contractor who specializes in foundation systems such as hayward baker or rembco.  they can probably provide a more viable solution through the use of a grouting system.
you might consider the uretek system.

thank you all for responses.  we have decided to cut back a small portion of the existing footing to verify footing thickness (and then support that edge with a helical pier) and hopefully that will minimize the amount of cut back.  unfortunately any type of grouting is not a viable solution due to poor soils to 10' below grade.
